Why Is North Up?

Plus, time to sing more...

Hi,

No long story this week, just some recommended links. I hope you find them valuable, interesting and, of course, worth procrastilearning over.

Video of the week:
Why is North up?

Why is North up? It’s a great question. And it turns out most maps around the world had East at the top for a long time, as explained in this new video from Map Men:

Beware: the YouTube channel it’s from is quite fantastic and likely to immediately eat up an hour of your time if you haven't got anything planned.

Pastime of the week:
Singing

Turns out you should sing more often, says The Washington Post. It's good for your mental and physical health, and your social life too. I'm not entirely sure my usual practice of murdering Candy's Room while driving my 2-year-old to nursery counts though.

Twitter account of the week:
Billy Oppenheimer

This young guy posts a story in exactly the same format each time he tweets, mostly about famous people in music or film who had some sort of key moment in their lives. He seems to have a thing for James Cameron and Jerry Seinfeld in particular.

Oppenheimer is the assistant of Ryan Holiday, the best-selling author who himself was originally the assistant of Robert Greene, an even better-selling author. I'm guessing that means he'll come out with a book at some point himself.

His latest tweet is about how you should be bored more often, which I certainly agree with:

That’s it for this week. Thanks for reading. If you’ve got an interesting recommendation yourself worth procrastilearning over, do send it my way by replying to this email.

Adam
